The Stress-Meaning Paradox: conversation with Andrew Soren for the Meaningful Work Matters podcast

The stress we feel at work isn't always the enemy.

I was really pleased to be invited to be a guest on the excellent Meaningful Work Matters podcast, hosted by Andrew Soren, founder and CEO of Eudaimonic by Design.

In the discussion, we explore:

  • How stress and meaning intertwine in our careers

  • Why sometimes stress at work feels deeply fulfilling and other times it seems to destroy us

  • Practical ways to craft a career that energizes rather than exhausts

As part of the conversation, I challenged listeners to rethink the relationship between stress and meaning:

"Meaningful work can help us tolerate and alleviate stress. Participants tended to accept stress when it served something they cared deeply about."

By sharing my research, I'm hoping to prompt listeners to examine their assumptions about workplace stress and meaning. The insights offer a fresh lens for viewing our career journeys, acknowledging both the fulfilment and the struggles.

Listen here for a candid exploration of work that matters - warts and all!
